Job Description

Aids the pharmacist by assisting in the purchasing, preparation, packaging, and record keeping associated with the dispensing and distribution of medications. Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

II. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Must be familiar with medical terminology. Must be dependable; exhibit professionalism; have integrity; be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; possess problem solving skills; demonstrate an excellent level of customer service; possess knowledge to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions; able to lift/move boxes; able to relate to various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; accept alternatives to the usually accepted norms without being judgmental; be in good general health; complete pre-employment and annual physical requirements (including alcohol and drug screens).

III. Working Conditions: Work in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated, and heated hospital. Strict adherence to procedures, precautions, and prudent behavior on the part of the individual is important to minimize exposure to toxic substances. Technicians who are pregnant attempting to become pregnant will not be allowed compound chemotherapeutic medications or handle other biohazardous material. Requires walking, sitting, standing, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Possible exposure to communicable disease, limited verbal or physical abuse, radiation or hazardous materials. Possible physical injury due to moving equipment.

IV. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; to follow written step by step instructions; computer skills.

V. Responsibilities: Provides services to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric dependents. Must relate with all other hospital personnel, patients, visitors, family members, physicians, and contract personnel. Practice standard precautions for Infection Control; adhere to safety policies and procedures; attend mandatory in-services; maintain helpful, caring attitudes that are perceived as courtesy and cheerful. Adheres to TRHS Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, TRHS policies and procedures, HIPPA Privacy and Security Initiatives.
